TICKS & FLEAS

Tick and Flea prevention

What Is Tick Paralysis?

Tick paralysis is a life-threatening condition. It causes a range of clinical signs including lethargy, weakness, paralysis, coughing, vomiting, retching, gagging and difficulty breathing.

Ticks can be seen all year round in this area but are generally a major problem from August through to January. If you find a tick on your pet, please telephone our clinic immediately.

  • Nexgard chew - every month
  • Quarterly Scalibor tick collar
  • Advantix - every two weeks (toxic to cats)

Tick Prevention Products For Cats

  • Frontline spray every 3 weeks

NO TICK PREVENTION IS 100% EFFECTIVE so it is important that you still regularly check your animal for ticks.

Flea Prevention

Fleas not only cause itchy skin, but spread tapeworm and cause anaemia and ill-thrift in young animals. They can be easily prevented with year-round use of spot-ons, sprays or tablets.

Many products are available for prevention and treatment and target different stages of the flea lifecycle. Please be aware that old-fashioned preventatives such as flea shampoos and powders do not provide continuous protection and many of them are not particularly safe.
